I would be willing to put money on it that the first exercise which comes to your mind when you envisage building big biceps is the dumbbell bicep curls exercise. How did I know this? Because it is the first one comes to my mind, too!
Although the dumbbell bicep curls exercise and images of big biceps are inextricably linked in the minds of everyone, the image of how to perform dumbbell bicep curls is usually wrong. That’s right…
What I’m saying is the way most people perform dumbbell bicep curls by twisting the dumbbell’s is ineffective.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying this method is useless. What I am merely stating is a far better way to perform dumbbell bicep curls is to use a straight supine grip from the bottom to the top, rather than twisting.
I’m not the only one who thinks this way. Many of the top bodybuilding and strength coaches also agree that this playing great puts the bicep in the most natural pulling position possible which means the greatest amount of muscle fibres in the biceps are incorporated during a lift. And, when the dumbbell bicep curl is performed with a twisting motion, a good deal of emotion cuts out this effect.
Because hammer curls and reversed dumbbell curls are used in bodybuilding from rightly, it is easy to see that this method of twisting the dumbbells throughout the motion originated from the idea that you will be working the muscles from different angles all in one go.
All I can say is, try dumbbell bicep curls the way I have suggested and see what kind of results you get.
