Naturally you are keen to get started lifting but I urge you to read these free bodybuilding tips before your touch a weight, as they can make a huge difference to your progress.
1. Always do warm up sets.
Warming up is boring and nobody likes to do it because it does not build any muscle, but you need to do warm up sets anyway. Without warm up sets you risk injuring yourself and not only that but your muscles aren’t prepared as well for the main lifts as they would have been which can result in your lifting been poor.
2. Keep your rest in between sets short.
Commonly people are told to rest for as long as they need in between sets. This is not a good idea as you tend to work the same muscle fibres again. It would be better for you to keep your rest in between sets short, and to strip weight off the bar for the next set then it would be to have a five minute break. Rest no longer than 2 minutes.
3. Change your routine regularly.
After a while your body grows accustomed to the exercises you are doing and stops responding. You need to recognize the signs that your exercise routine is no longer working, and you need to change it. You can change your routine by trying different exercises or simply adjusting the exercises a little. This may need to be done every month or more often.
4. Drink water whilst you train.
Training seriously dehydrates the body and like they say you don’t always realise you are dehydrated until it’s serious. Dehydration not only can cause headaches and even blackouts, but it will definitely lower your strength making you incapable of lifting the amount of weight you need to build muscle.
It is important not to gulp your water but sip it steadily in between each set.
5. Breath in between each rep.
A simple tip but how many of us forget to do it? Just by being sure to breath or even take a few deep breaths in between each rep we can keep our strength up throughout the set, enabling us to lift longer and lift heavier.
When to breathe is simple. If doing the squats or bench press breathe at the top. If doing bicep curls breathe when they barbell is hanging down. Breath in the most relaxed position and hold it until you are back there, breath out, then breath in again.
