#1: Always try to lift heavier, if not each session, then each week.

#2: Eat enough food to support muscle growth.

Building muscle is an energy consuming business, so you need to be sure that you are taking in a lot more food than you would normally. How much food depends on many variables, but not least enough to begin putting on around a pound of muscle a week.

You could of course try to put more on, but sometimes trying to go for too much muscle gains in a short space of time can lead to unwanted fat gains, so I advise you to go slowly.

When you find you are no longer putting size, weight and strength on, you need to once again increase your food intake.

You must also eat every 3 hours while you are awake to keep your body building and repairing muscle at all times.

#3: When not lifting, rest.

Resting when you are not lifting not only allow was the body to use the calories you are taken in from foot to build a new muscle mass, but it also gives the muscles break, too.

I would recommend keeping other sporting activities to a minimum while you are trying to build muscle mass. Most people find the short sacrifice well worth it, and also when they return to their sports find they are much stronger and faster.
