We’ve all seen in the magazines and on the Internet pictures of bodybuilders who have great triceps. But, have you ever seen this wondrous spectacle with your own two eyes, in person, before? Trust me, it really is something to behold.
In addition to being the primary contributor to the size of the upper arm (twice as much as the biceps, in fact) without big strong triceps you are likely to have difficulty in handling heavy weights for pressing exercises.
Now I’ve got your mouth watering and your mind boggling, I’ll introduce you to an excellent exercise which can quickly help to build these fascinating horseshoe shaped muscles — skull crushers.
To perform skull crushers…
- Lay down on a flat bench.
- Holds the barbell above you using a close overhand grip with your arms completely locked out (as you would in a bench press).
- Keeping your upper arms completely still and vertical, bend at the elbow bringing the bar down to your forehead.
- Use triceps strength to move the bar back into a lockout.
- Always keep the upper arm stationery and perfectly vertical.
If you have extra long arms like I do, it may not be possible for you to lower the bar to your head whilst keeping your upper arm vertical. You will then, in this case, have to lower the bar back from the top of your head – just be sure to keep that upper arm where it should be – perfectly vertical at all times.
